Colour
A grading scale describing how colourless a white diamond appears under controlled conditions.
Clarity
The type, position and visibility of natural internal and surface characteristics.
Carat
A measure of weight, not face-up diameter. Shape and proportions also influence apparent size.
BEYOND THE GRADE
Shape, certification and origin
Shape determines the diamond’s outline and much of its personality. Round stones are known for a balanced pattern of brilliance, while fancy shapes create very different proportions and silhouettes.
For selected stones, an independent grading report records measured characteristics and grades. It is an identification and assessment document, not a guarantee of beauty. Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds share the same crystal structure but have different origins and market considerations.
Common questions
Is a higher grade always more beautiful?
No. Grades are useful comparison tools, but proportions, light performance and personal preference affect what you see.
Does carat mean size?
Carat measures weight. Two diamonds of the same carat can have different face-up dimensions depending on shape and proportions.
Natural or laboratory-grown?
Both are diamonds. The right choice depends on your priorities, budget and how you feel about origin and long-term ownership.
